breaking the edge with anna von frances

By Anna Von Frances on August 2, 2010 In unexpected

i’m 24 days in and so far I’ve broken edge 4 times. i know, i’m a terrible person who can’t keep a bet with myself but i only feel responsible for two.

all four times it was beer, all four times i felt it the next morning, even if it was only ONE BEER. at this point, i don’t think i will drink at work again, at least not regularly (god, i hope you’ve been following all along so that doesn’t sound like i’m drinking at my desk job at the bank). the benefits far outweigh the deterrents. my skin and hair and overall clear-eyed look have been getting more than a few compliments which i chock up to sleeping well every night. plus, i’ve been exercising every day and it’s kept me running like a well-oiled luxury car. i eat better, sleep better, feel better and look better by the day.

here’s how i fell off the wagon the times that didn’t count: montreal.

because i love to make life harder when the going’s too easy, i decided to go to montreal for my birthday weekend. for those of you who have never been to montreal picture never never land, but completely devoid of kids. it’s like a glorified university town where no one ages past 23 and almost every “rule” is negotiable. like last call.

on my first night i cracked and had a beer. and on the second, when the clock struck midnight and i was at a friend’s house, they literally forced me to drink a shot of vodka. it tasted like nail polish remover, and promptly put me on my ass like a kid on cough syrup. i went straight to bed.

having lived in montreal for years and visiting often since moving, i feel like a beer and a shot is still basically sober by montreal terms. up until a few years ago, you could still smoke in hospitals there. ah la belle province, don’t ever change.

i have a long weekend and 10 days more to go before i’m home free and i plan on making it count. fingers crossed.
