so i’m guest posting here on vitaminwater for the next little bit. hello! i think a series of posted related to the people and places i love in the toronto fashion scene would be fun and appropriate introduction to my adventures. first up should be a surprise to no one who has followed me for the last couple of years, kirk pickersgill and stephen wong of greta constantine and ezra constantine.

kirk and stephen formed the womenswear line greta constantine in 2005. the name is a mashup of family names, greta being stephen’s mother’s name and constantine being kirk’s grandfather’s name. their signature draped, jersey dresses soon attracted interest and fans. they are sexy, flattering, colourful, easy wearing and the perfect travelling companions. not content with being known as the “jersey boys”, greta constantine has pushed design boundaries and has included separates and outerwear.

i’ve been lucky enough to get to know the designers on a personal level over the years and consider them friends. people know i’m an unabashed greta constantine fan and the anita dress solidified that. kirk and stephen always name their designs after women who influence them. they could be called muses or more appropriately the greta girls. these women are friends, models or part of the design team. the anita dress was part of the fall 2009 – 2010 collection and i am eternally grateful to be part of this group. i’ve always wanted to be a muse. the dress was also a major part of the bloor street installation of the holt renfrew bloggers window that dedicated to me in July 2009. i can’t even describe how wonderful the combination of these two major fashion events in my life are. This video taken by my friend jaime woo at my unveiling party can give you a bit of insight into my feelings.

kirk and stephen were not content with just designing womenswear and in the fall of 2009 they introduced their menswear line, ezra constantine. the name is another play on words with ezra being stephen’s father’s name. it’s a contemporary menswear line that incorporates their signature jersey and draping but includes an aspect of sportswear’s utility. it’s a line for the men but myself and many other women who walk on the side of androgyny are huge fans.

greta and ezra constantine are available in toronto at holt renfrew and at harrod’s in the uk.
